One of the great challenges of the Gospel is to embrace those who are different from us. At a time when different cultures are said by some to be the source of division, the wisdom of Sacred Scripture, the Church’s ancient living tradition, and the witness of faith communities today all testify to the contrary for in Christ, we become one. By providing some tools for listening to this body of Christ, which is the Church, this workshop explores the role of culture in our attempt to live out the values of the Kingdom of God. Various interactive learning methods such as presentations, small and large group discussion, as well as audiovisuals, will be engaged.
The basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City is the most visited pilgrimage site in the Western Hemisphere. Pope John Paul II acclaimed Guadalupe as the patroness of the American hemisphere. This day of our gathering will be dedicated to examining the ever-expanding writings on Guadalupe down through the centuries and her influence in both church and society. The workshops are intended for those who know little or nothing about Guadalupe as well as those who have experienced her and want to deepen their knowledge and appreciation.
